January & February

In the new year, I guess as my resolution, I vowed to tackle Blender. I’ve tried it in the past and gotten some headway, but would often get bored or frustrated when working on things– mainly because I wasn’t familiar with Blender, and would lose interest. I had used Maya in the past and I was thinking it would be easy switching over, but it was more difficult than I had expected.

So this year, I’ve made a plan to help myself learn Blender and I’m going to do my best to stick to it. My first step in this plan is to do a small project each month, nothing too ambitious. This first month of January, I of course had to start out my journey right by watching Blender Guru’s Donut Tutorial series. All things considered, I think it turned out pretty good.

For February, a friend of mine showed me a ‘Funguary’ art challenge. I decided to use that as my inspiration for February’s project, which I have dubbed ‘Log Dog’. What if mushroom…but also dog friend? I chose the fungus ‘Filoboletus Manipularis’, a mushroom that glows! I also decided to go a more stylized route for this project, and I think it turned out fairly well! I didn’t have enough time to give finishing touches or texture, but I plan on adding that in April. I really want to try out making a glow effect!
